Having worked in the fencing / Landscaping industry for most of my working career, I'm no stranger to keeping fit.
At the age of 44, I needed a change and pondered what I might do.
As I have always trained with friends in my gym, the idea occurred to me that maybe I could do this full time.
This brought me to Personal Training - and what a change it has been.
Why is it that the obesity level is so high today?
Why is it that people are so unfit?
Why do people sign up for gym fees and never go?
Here at Shedfit, we think that getting fit is just as much about your mind as it is about your body. We adopt strategies in the gym that keep you motivated to keep going.
We are not about yelling at you. We are about educating you.
You will learn about how and why we store fat, and how to train and eat to get rid of it and keep it off, plus so much more.
You will be fitness tested, weighed, your fat percentage analysed and your body measurements taken at your initial appointment, then weighed and measured each week to track your progress and so we can see what is working and what's not. Our gym is full of Visual Motivation.
Another benefit of training at shedfit is that every Personal Training client receives a hands on stretch at the end of every session. This is something that most gyms would charge extra for or not even consider. We offer incredible value by including this in our fees.
Deb & I are now both in our forties and fully understand how people our age battle against a lowering metabolism. It sometimes seems impossible to lose weight. Look around and tell me how many people over 30 you see, that are in their ideal weight range (target BMI).
We train people to think about the rest of their lives - not just this week. We are very goal oriented. Without goals, you will never achieve anything because you haven't set out to achieve anything.
The mental edge is so VERY important.
Since starting this business, I have been constantly astounded by how little most people actually know about how their bodies work.
We believe this information should be common place. So many people have been brainwashed by TV ads saying "I lost 6kg in the first week...", or "I got 6 pack abs in 2 weeks..." with some new gimmick workout machine or fad diet. The ads are very misleading and manipulate the truth.
I am really enjoying the industry I am in right now. It's a fantastic feeling to go on a journey with a client, to see them reach a goal, get happier, more confident, mentally tougher and to watch them get thinner, fitter and more flexible. It is great for the soul.

When you think of Personal Training, what comes to mind?
Do you instantly think of "The Biggest Loser" or "Boot-camp" type programs and run for the hills?
Do you have visions of some elite athlete yelling at you & telling you that if you work hard enough, you can be just like them?
These stereotypes are what put most average people off.
I believe that as a personal trainer, I am there to help you be the person YOU want to be, whatever that may be. Not everyone wants to be a contender for "Australias next top model", but it is so important to be comfortable and confident with the body you have and above all else, healthy.
I am 46 and a mum to 2 beautiful children who are now 8 & 11 years old. Since having children, I appreciate even more the importance of good health. Just being able to keep up with them and their activities requires so much energy. I consider myself very fortunate that I am blessed with good health, however being physically active and being conscious of healthy eating does contribute greatly to that.
When John & I decided to make the lifestyle change and turn our fitness “hobby” into our business, I really started to think about what difference I could make to other peoples lives.
I thought of the parents who are too tired to run, ride a bike, or kick a ball in the park with their children.
I thought about the older adults who may be facing the prospect of losing their independence because of their lack of physical fitness.
I thought of the growing incidence of obesity among children and the many associated health conditions this may lead to.
I began to ponder all the reasons people don’t exercise and what I could do to change that. I believe I have come up with a solution to any excuse that you can throw at me. If you want to improve the prospects of a better quality of life, be physically fitter, lose weight, increase muscle size or strength, I will move heaven and earth to keep you motivated and focused on achieving that goal. Anything is possible with the determination and support of someone who genuinely cares. I want to be that person for you.
